US 10k Championships…

Early on in the race...

Hanging in there...

A week and a day after running in the US 10-mile Championships, I had the opportunity to run in the US 10k Champs in Boston.  What a great city to run in!  I always love this race and although I had not run the Tufts 10k since 2006, it is a race that has always been a memorable one.  The US 10k Championships was my first US Championship.  I ran it first in 2003, fresh out of college.  I was not even on the elite athlete roster and think I finished somewhere in the mid-20’s with a time in the 36’s.  I remember my good friend, Bri Shook, took me under her wing and let me hang with her in the elite tent.  She had a shoe sponsor and was getting to go to races and run as an elite.  I remember wanting that so bad and was so happy to get to experience it with her as my guide.  I can even remember her placing in the top 10 and I was so mesmerized by that, making it a goal of mine to someday be in the top ten at a US Championship event.  While my goals have become loftier since that October day in 2003, I have now placed as high as 4th at a US Championship.  Today I was 9th, running a PR in a distance I have not run in two years.  The race was an amazing experience, I learned alot about how to race the 10k better next time.  It is much different than the longer races I am so used to running. However, the most amazing part of the weekend were the amazing women that I got to compete against.  While we all want to win out there on the race course, we all have a bond because of running.  I feel very fortunate to get to travel and meet the most inspiring and humble women.  My competition makes me a better runner and I have so much gratitude to be able to live out a dream!

Thank you to all the people that made Conventures, Inc. Tufts 10k/ US Champs possible.  Thank you to my sponosrs, especially Mizuno and Ron Wayne for coming out to cheer Loretta Kilmer and I on.  I appreciate the support and hope I am able to make Mizuno proud.  I am proud to be a part of the Mizuno team.  Also, thank you to my coach and my family  for the unconditional love, support and encouragement that has helped me reach my goals and who continue to nurture my larger goals.  I would not be where I am without you.  Most of all, I thank the Man above for giving me this incredible life!
