30 Days – Day 4

Day four I woke up to sunshine and the birds chirping. There is so much to be grateful for even on days when I wake up feeling a little sad. Why am I sad you ask? I woke up wondering if my leg would continue to plague me or if I’d be able to jog more than a minute at a time. I want to feel the sun on my face, the breeze in my hair, the burn in my lungs from a good hard effort, and I want to sweat again (not from cross-training but from running)! There is nothing like it!

So today, I am going to be grateful for all the miles I’ve been able to run and for all the miles still ahead to be run. While I may not be able to run (for very long) right now, I know like every other injury I’ve overcome, I will prevail. I will get to feel the endorphin rush again that only running gives you, I will feel the satisfaction of getting through a tough workout, and I will feel the overwhelming satisfaction of a goal reached.

I believe challenges are there to make us stronger, test our strength and make us really dig deep to come back. I believe we are never given a burden that we cannot handle, no matter how daunting it may seem. I may not always handle setbacks with as much grace or courage as I’d like but I just give it the best I have for that day and keep looking ahead.

Today I am grateful for all the days of running I’ve had and will have in the future and for the strength to persevere. Running has given me more than I could ever hope for and has built relationships that will last a lifetime. For all of that I am grateful. Be sure to find something or someone to be grateful for today and everyday. It’s very easy to be grateful when everything is going well, but it’s a challenge to find the good when your world seems to be crashing down. Don’t regret living life in fast-forward and not stopping often enough to smell the roses and appreciate what YOU DO HAVE!
