Day 15…being grateful…

Today is day 15.  Today I’m grateful for biographies.  Right now as I log hours on the spin bike I read my Kindle, it makes the time fly by much faster.   I’ve flown through multiple books, my most recent being, “No Regrets” by Apollo Ohno.  Apollo Ohno chronicles his life and his skating career.  He reminds me of the importance of the mind and it’s role in sport and life, and the power it has over the body.  I’m at a point in my career where I can actually think of an injury as a time to strengthen my mind.  I may not be strengthening my mind through long grueling running workouts, but I am strengthening it nonetheless, and in a way that often gets neglected when training hours on end.

It’s easy to go into the “poor me” stage and feel down and depressed when injured, heck, I’ve never had an injury where I didn’t do that!  However, there comes a time where you have to face the facts, be proactive and be determined!  My determination is to come back stronger than before by working on all the little weaknesses my body has, which, includes weakness in the mind.  So here’s to a day of being grateful for others who share their stories.  Every successful person has a story that wasn’t paved in gold and ease.  My story has been full of many downs and some ups and I’ll take those downs to better myself as a runner and as a human because it is through adversity that we grow.   Only when we grow can we be truly successful and reach our goals.  Thank you Apollo Ohno for sharing your story.  I’m truly inspired to have NO REGRETS!
